With the smashing box office run, Pushpa 2: The Rule emerged as the top grossing Indian film for the year 2024. Despite two major releases across India - Baby John and Mufasa The Lion King, Pushpa 2 The Rule refused to slow down.
Before the Telugu film released in theatres, Pushpa 2: The Rule collected more than $10 million from advance ticket sales worldwide. On December 5, the movie made a global opening collection of $34.7 million and became the top opening Indian film for the year 2024, and the top -- opening film ever. Previously, SS Rajamouli's RRR held the record with an opening score of $29.4 million.
With a collection of $19.5 million on day one in the Indian markets, Pushpa 2 The Rule registered the biggest opening score for lead stars, as well as the film's director. The film crossed the $125 million mark worldwide within a week at the box office and also registered an impressive score of $96.8 million in the Indian markets in that period.
In the Hindi markets in India alone, the film crossed $66 million in ten days at the ticket windows. Interestingly, the collections for the film's Hindi version exceeded those of the original Telugu version by the time it completed three weeks at the ticket windows.
Allu Arjun's second film in the popular Pushpa franchise made it to the global list of Comscore for movies scoring highest in a weekend. Pushpa 2: The Rule made its debut on the list of top-scoring films in the weekend ending December 8 and made t t the top five. The next week, the Telugu film maintained its spot on the list for the weekend ending December 15.
Allu Arjun first appeared as Pushpa Raj in Pushpa: The Rise. Sukumar directed the first film which stormed the Indian box office and surprised trade analysts with its wide reach transcending language barriers in the country.
Pushpa: The Rise was the first film in Sukumar's Pushpa franchise. Pushpa is the story of a young angry man who was deprived of basic amenities due to social prejudices and decides to dismantle the entire system of society and authority to avenge himself. Work is now going on for the third film, Pushpa 3: The Rampage.
Both Pushpa films (Pushpa The Rise and Pushpa The Rule) were custom-made for a target fanbase that relishes and justifies violent outbursts for the sake of righteousness and masculinity. Sukumar recreates the enchanting world of Pushpa Raj exactly as his fans enjoy and cherish in Pushpa 2: The Rule. It focuses on the image, aura and stardom of the lead actor, and the film and its story take a backseat quite often.
The new film is also testament to the filmmakers acknowledging feedback from critics and the audience. Pushpa 2 The Rule uses a lot of imagery to negate all allegations of misogyny and violent patriarchal worldview. Unlike such 'masala' entertainers, Pushpa 2 The Rule even offers agency to Mandanna's character. Not only does she confidently ask for her needs and expectations to be fulfilled, but she also gets to almost rescue the hero in a tricky situation in the film.
