Construction on South Palm Canyon Bridge is on track to begin Monday, officials announced Thursday.
The project is targeted at replacing the existing bridge, a structure installed in the 1930s, with a modern, 98-foot design including wider sidewalks, dedicated bike lanes and public art installations in a concrete center median, according to a city statement.
Long-term lane closures will be in place throughout the process, with one lane open in each direction unless otherwise announced.
Work on the bridge is being divided into two phases -- the western lanes will be demolished and rebuilt first, with traffic being temporarily shifted to the eastern side, and then vice versa.
City officials said the project has an estimate completion time of late 2026.
