ABU DHABI: Delegated by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Dr Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, led Oman's delegation at the World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi on Friday. The participation confirms Oman's firm commitment to international efforts aimed at conserving nature and ensuring the sustainable management of natural resources, in line with the objectives of the Oman Vision 2040 and the global sustainable development goals.
The conference focuses on five strategic themes that represent the pillars of the transition towards a more sustainable future for nature and people; expanding the scope of sustainable and resilient environmental action, reducing the risks of climate change, transitioning to nature-friendly economies and societies, achieving environmental justice and equality; and stimulating innovation and leadership in nature conservation.
Organised every four years by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), this conference is one of the most prominent global gatherings, bringing together thousands of leaders and decision-makers from governments, civil society, business, academia and indigenous peoples. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is a leading global membership organisation founded in 1948, comprising more than 1,400 governmental and non-governmental organisations and 17,000 experts. It plays a pivotal role in assessing the state of nature through tools such as the Red List of Threatened Species and sets global standards to guide conservation and sustainable development efforts around the world.
Al Habsi is accompanied by Dr Abdullah bin Ali al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority and President of the Seventh Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly.
