Safety concerns raised following crash at junction

Concerns have been raised about the safety of a junction in Oxfordshire have been raised following a crash.

Lee Evans, the county councillor for the Kingston and Stanford ward in south west Oxfordshire, said he was "very sorry to see" that there was a crash at at the Buckland Road junction of the A420 on Monday.

The A420, which passes through Oxford and has varying speed limits, has seen a number of dangerous road incidents, with at least 351 crashes taking place in the last few years.

The Conservative councillor said improving safety at the junction - which is situated near the village of Buckland, a short drive from Faringdon - is one of his "top priorities" for the local area.

The question is: "Safety at the Buckland Road junction with the A420 is a concern for many of my residents, especially those who live in or around Buckland.

"Can the council confirm the experience of local residents, specifically that the volume of traffic using this section of the A420 has increased significantly since the road was originally designed and, therefore, the current design of the junction is no longer suitable for the volume of traffic using it?"

Mr Evans added: "I'll then be trying to ask a supplementary question of the cabinet member for transport management [Andrew Gant], which I'll use to try and secure commitments from the council to look seriously at how to improve the junction."
