Craig Campbell Was Kicked Out Of A Vanderbilt Basketball Game This Week - After Performing At Halftime

Not often you see an artist getting kicked out of their own show.

Before we get started, I need to get something out of the way: Craig Campbell is one of the most underrated guys in the game. I've said it many times here, but with a catalog of hits like "Outskirts of Heaven," "Family Man," "Keep Them Kisses Comin'" and so many more, it's a shame that he's not the household name that he deserves to be.

But anyway, just had to get that off my chest.

Craig also happens to be one of the most hardworking guys in Nashville, not only on his music but also as the owner of his coffee shop, Grindstone Cowboy, in nearby Eagleville, Tennessee, while also serving on the Eagleville city council. But he still makes plenty of time for his music, and it's easy to find Craig performing around Nashville when he's not out on tour.

Just recently, he performed during halftime of the Vanderbilt University basketball game against Auburn University. But apparently things didn't exactly go smoothly.

Craig recently took to social media to recount his experience, revealing that he ended up getting kicked out of Memorial Gymnasium for what might be the dumbest reason possible.

According to Craig, he showed up a few hours before the game for soundcheck, and then walked to a nearby bar for some food and a cold beer before the performance.

Well he gets back and walks into the arena like he did the first time and delivers his halftime performance on the court. They go back to their seats, and with a few minutes left in the game, decide to go ahead and leave to beat the traffic. But while making their exit, Craig was confronted by security:

"A guy grabs me and he's like, 'What's in your pocket?' I said, 'It's my pocket knife. That's where I keep my knife, in my pocket, because it's a pocket knife.'"

Memorial Gymnasium says on their website that pocket knives are prohibited - but as Craig points out, not only was he there to play the halftime show, but he also had the knife with him the entire time he was in the arena with no issue. Doesn't seem like he was a big threat.

But the security guard was unphased:

"He says, 'Well you can't have that here.' And I said, 'Well I've had it here all day since 3:00. I just got done playing for the halftime show.'

He literally looks at me and says, 'I don't care.' Then he decides to tell everybody around, 'Hey y'all, he has a knife in.' I said, 'Wait a minute bro, I've had it with me all day. It ain't hurting nobody.' 'Well you can't have that in here.'

I said, 'Somebody let me in here with it. We were literally leaving.'

He said, 'When?' I said, 'Right now.'...

So then he tries to tell me to go out this way. I said, 'Well my guitars are that way.' So then he literally tells us to go, and we walk behind the end of the court, straight, and wouldn't let me stop and say bye to nobody. Went to the closet where our guitars were. Put our guitars on our back, told us to go out this door because we couldn't come back in.

I mean, this dude treated me like a straight criminal."

Pretty ridiculous. I know Nashville isn't exactly the "country," but it's still in the south, so I guarantee that every dude you walk by on the street has a pocket knife in their pocket at any given time. It's just like your phone, keys and wallet. You never leave home without it.

But hey, I'm sure the security guard felt like he did something important - by kicking out the halftime entertainer for carrying a pocket knife.

Craig also happens to have a new song out today, a stone-cold country heartbreaker called "Missing You."
