RAYNHAM - In a remarkable display of skill and teamwork, members of the Raynham Police and Fire Departments saved two lives in two days last month.
On Jan. 4 and 5, Patrolwoman Amanda Wong and Patrolman Daniel Fitch sprang into action during two separate medical emergencies, using their life-saving training in CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to rescue two in distress.
Police Chief David LaPlante and Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita released a joint statement commending both of their departments for their life-saving work.
"The actions of Raynham police officers involved in both of these life-saving situations exemplify our department's mission and core values," said Police Chief LaPlante. "Patrolwoman Amanda Wong and Patrolman Daniel Fitch used their training and expertise to make a difference in the lives of these two patients, and I commend them for their commitment to serving the people of Raynham."
"I am proud to recognize the Raynham Fire personnel who responded to these medical episodes," Fire Chief LaCivita added. "The positive outcome for both of these incidents was largely due to the great teamwork exhibited by Raynham Fire and Police."

Raynham Patrolwoman Wong was first to respond to a 911 call about a man who was not breathing and unresponsive at a home on Carver Street. When Wong arrived, a family member was already performing CPR. Wong set up the AED and told the family member to place the electrode pads on the man's chest because they were located in a narrow spot. A shock was delivered, and then Wong took over chest compressions until Raynham paramedics arrived.
"Patrolwoman Wong provided two rounds of CPR and delivered two shocks to the patient, which greatly contributed to saving the patient's life," said Chief LaPlante. "Her quick response while providing quality CPR and her ability to adapt proved to be extremely vital in the patient's survival."
Lt. James Karns and Firefighters Gary Santos, Andrew Gunnison, Dominic Kuran, Salvatore Imprescia and Tom Kelleher also helped with life saving measures.
The man was conscious when transported to a local hospital by Raynham Fire. According to the release, Raynham Police were told a few days later the man was expected to recover.

Patrolman Fitch was dispatched to a residence to help Raynham Fire with a person who was having difficulty breathing. Upon arrival, Fitch found the victim unresponsive with no pulse and immediately notified the arriving paramedics and set up the AED. The AED did not advise a shock, so Fitch moved to chest compressions while paramedics administered an oral airway. Fitch assisted paramedics with CPR and helped moved the victim down the staircase into an ambulance. The victim, who now had a pulse, was transported to a local hospital.
Lt. William Trautman and Firefighters Michael Peters, Scott Pillsbury, Tyler Carey and Black Luther from Raynham Fire also assisted in the rescue.
"Due to Patrolman Fitch's high-quality CPR, quick update to paramedics and aid in moving the patient down a narrow staircase, the patient's life was saved," said Chief LaPlante.
