Scots paramedics reunited with baby they saved seven months on from traumatic birth - Daily Record

Scottish ambulance heroes have been reunited with a baby they saved after being called out to the scene after the tot's mum's waters burst while she was making her way to hospital.

Paramedic Emma Hulme and Technician Dale Brown were called out from their base in Glenrothes, Fife, when Olivia Dunne, of Cowdenbeath, went into labour with baby Bonnie.

Olivia, her husband Craig and their tot have now had an emotional reunion with the Scottish Ambulance Service workers seven months on from the incident.

Bonnie, the couple's first child, is now eight-month-old and is making great progress after the breech birth - where a baby is delivered bottom or feet first.

Bonnie had to be given emergency CPR and spent six days in a specialist neonatal unit at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy after the January 27 birth.

Olivia said the birth was terrifying and Bonnie wouldn't be alive today if not for the crew. She said: "If the crew hadn't come so quickly and managed to get me and baby to the hospital, my baby wouldn't have made it.

"I am eternally grateful for the care and love they provided as well as staying with me until baby was born. They've absolutely, they've saved her life. This could have been a completely different story.

Dale said every month on the 27th he is sent an update on Bonnie, including photos, and was delighted to meet up with the family in person again.

The ambulance technician said: "This little girl will be beside in my head and in my heart forever. To hear that Bonnie is progressing so well means the world. Emma said: "She's coming on an absolute treat and I hope she carries on developing to the best she can be.

"It was also lovely to see Olivia and Craig as well catch up with them in a less emergency situation." Speaking of the incident, Olivia said she was at home in the early stages of labour when her "waters went".

Calling the hospital's maternity ward, she was advised to head straight into hospital. She added: "However, when I stood up I could feel the baby coming, so I knew we wouldn't have made it ourselves."

As a result of the breech birth, Bonnie was without oxygen for a while, with Olivia adding: "When she was born, she needed CPR and intubation to bring her back around - it was terrifying."
