North Augusta City Council approves Palmetto Trailway Project grant application

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - On Monday, the North Augusta City Council unanimously approved a grant application for the Palmetto Trailway Project.

The project will include an asphalt parking lot, ADA accessibility, and a privacy shelter and kiosk.

There is still time for you to submit your feedback on the project to the Parks and Recreation Department. Applications are due this Friday.

The city council says the second pass for Helene cleanup will be completed north of I-20 by Friday and the second pass completed for Savannah Barony and River North neighborhoods. More than 11 miles are cleared out of the city's 24-mile radius.

Also, tonight two officers and a firefighter in North Augusta were recognized with a Lifesaver award.

Corporal Medgar Patten, PSO Hoots and firefighter Dandy were at the station when someone knocked on the door to tell them about a city employee lying on the ground. The three did CPR on the person who went to the hospital and survived.

Sergeant David Bunts was also recognized tonight for 27 years of service with North Augusta Public Safety.
