Key medical detail emerges as Guehi to Liverpool 'expected' to happen

Liverpool are 'expected' to get a deal done for Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi before the 7pm transfer deadline, and a key detail regarding the Crystal Palace captain's medical has been revealed.

Liverpool are 'expected' to get a deal done for Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi before the 7pm transfer deadline, and a key detail regarding the Crystal Palace captain's medical has been revealed.

While the imminent £130m signing of Alexander Isak - who has arrived at the training ground for his medical - will dominate many Anfield headlines on deadline day, the Reds are also working to strike a deal for Guehi.

The former Chelsea starlet had entered the final 12 months of his contract with the FA Cup and Community Shield winners and is seen as an ideal successor to Ibrahima Konate, who is also due to become a free agent in 2026 and is apparently wanted by Real Madrid.

Palace boss Oliver Glasner has repeatedly stressed that the club cannot afford to lose Guehi in the summer window, having already seen one prized asset in Eberechi Eze join Arsenal in a £67.5m deal.

However, the Eagles are said to be closing in on the signing of one Premier League defender to replace Guehi, and they are also considering a second England-based centre-back on the final day of the window.

Liverpool facing 'race against time' to seal Guehi transfer

Now, journalist Ben Jacobs claims that Liverpool are increasingly confident of wrapping up a deal for Guehi before the market closes, and an agreement between the Reds and the Eagles is 'expected' to happen.

However, all parties are facing a 'race against time' to shake hands on a transfer before 7pm, although Liverpool will have until 9pm to conclude a deal if they submit the necessary deal sheet to the Premier League by the deadline.

Should Liverpool and Palace reach an agreement, Jacobs adds that Guehi's medical would take place in London rather than the Reds' AXA Training Centre in a further bid to save time.

The 25-year-old came up with a potentially fitting final contribution in a Palace shirt on Sunday, scoring a cracking goal in the Eagles' 3-0 Premier League win over Aston Villa before collapsing in euphoria in front of the away end.

Goalkeeper Dean Henderson then appeared to usher Guehi towards the fans at full time, but the former Chelsea defender resisted his compatriot's nudges as he applauded the visiting crowd.

Guehi boasts nine goals and four assists from 161 appearances in all competitions for Crystal Palace, who paid £20.2m to sign the England international from Chelsea in the summer of 2021.
