Friday, March 7th Forecast: Cooler, less windy weather ahead

Howling winds blew in a batch of spring air. Wind gusts peaked this afternoon with many locations recording gusts over 40 mph. Springfield registered a gust of 51 mph, the second time this week for wind gusts over the 50 mph mark.

At least this round of wind came with warm temperatures. The problem is winds have shifted and cooler air is once again flowing into the region.

Winds have eased but will remain breezy throughout the night. Clouds will also build south making for a grey start to the day for many across Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas.

The low clouds will thin out later in the morning, but a storm passing by to the south will sling a veil of high clouds across our skies. The cloudiest, and coolest conditions will be to the south. Areas closer to Central Missouri will have more sunshine and slightly warmer afternoon highs. Either way though, it looks like a day to break the hoodie back out.

Rain will skirt by to the south Saturday night, maybe clipping areas from Berryville to Mtn. Home. That rain and cloud cover will make a quick exit by Sunday morning with a beautiful backend to the weekend.

The pattern for next week is looking lovely. Sunny and 70s Monday and Tuesday. We'll hold onto spring temperatures throughout the rest of the week, but we'll have to deal with a couple of storm systems. One will move through Wednesday, another on Friday. Thunderstorms are possible with both.
