SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- An off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer was killed in a solo-vehicle crash Saturday morning in Santa Clarita, authorities said.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were called at 2:15 a.m. to Cinema Drive and Bouquet Canyon Road where they found the vehicle engulfed in flames, a spokesperson for the fire department said

Video footage showed the vehicle sustained substantial damage and was destroyed in the fire.

The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel. The LAPD confirmed he was an off-duty officer. His name was not immediately released.

Deputies remained at the scene for several hours investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, the sheriff's department said.
