In a new preview of its "Movie Gen" AI model, Instagram is looking to stoke interest among creators who are eager to "change nearly any aspect of your videos."
The Meta-owned social media platform is teasing AI-powered video capabilities that will soon allow creators to take on new backgrounds, outfits, vibes and Muppet versions of themselves in-stream.
In a new video, Instagram head Adam Mosseri highlights Movie Gen's ability to make immediate changes to creator videos using a "simple text prompt."
<>"You should be able to do anything you want with your videos," says Mosseri. "You should be able to change your outfit, or change the context in which you're sitting, or add a chain.
Whatever you can think of."
As Mosseri speaks, the video transitions seamlessly through AI-powered outfits and backgrounds, including Mosseri's transformation into a Muppet-inspired puppet.
Meta's Movie Gen feature was first announced in October in direct competition with OpenAI's Sora and ByteDance's Jimeng text-to-video models. The video generator is able to create 16-second 1080p HD video clips from text prompts and edit a user's face into existing footage with synchronized sound.
Weeks after announcing the beta version of Movie Gen, Meta called on Hollywood filmmakers and content creators to help the company develop the tool and gather industry feedback via a new pilot program. Movie Gen is set to launch for all users within the next few months.
The sooner Meta decides to officially launch Movie Gen the better. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced on Monday that its AI video generator Sora will be completely free for all ChatGPT Plus users over the holidays, effectively beating Meta to market.
In addition to Sora, Adobe's Firefly Video models are gaining momentum, powering beta text-to-video editing tools within Premiere Pro.
