'Probably Won't Touch Another Piece Of Candy': South Carolina Woman Eats Half A Box Of Goobers. Then She Sees Something Moving Inside

A South Carolina woman's movie night snack turned into a nightmare when she saw what was crawling through her chocolate.

The discovery came only after she'd already eaten half the box, leaving her emotionally distraught and questioning whether she would ever eat candy again.

In a trending video with more than 70,000 views, Kendra Nikole (@kendranikole_) shows viewers the horrifying discovery she made while enjoying what should have been a simple treat.

The video shows a half-eaten box of Goobers chocolate-covered peanuts with live maggots visibly squirming throughout the candy.

"POV: You ate candy with maggots," the text overlay on her video reads while the audio in the background features the cheerful "nothing beats a Jet2 holiday" sound -- creating an ironic contrast to the disturbing footage.

In the video, viewers can clearly see multiple white maggots moving among the remaining chocolate pieces.

The realization of what she'd been eating is made worse by the fact that the box is already half empty, meaning Nikole had consumed a significant portion before noticing anything was wrong.

In a follow-up comment, Nikole provided an update on her condition.

"Update since the maggot mayhem. I am alive and well physically lol," she wrote.

In her caption, Nikole expressed the severe emotional toll the discovery has taken on her.

"I'm so disgusted and emotionally distraught! No appetite for food," she wrote.

"Probably won't touch another piece of candy."

The experience appears to have left her completely put off from candy in general, not just the specific brand involved.

"I need their legal team to answer my emails asap," she added.

While Nikole confirmed she's physically fine after the ordeal, eating maggot-infested food does carry potential health risks.

While accidentally eating a single maggot is unlikely to cause serious harm, consuming maggot-infested food poses several risks, Healthline reports.

The primary concern isn't necessarily the maggots themselves, but what they've been exposed to or eaten, like bacteria from rotting flesh or feces.

Maggot-infested food can cause bacterial poisoning, particularly because many houseflies use animal and human feces as breeding sites. Maggots can become contaminated with dangerous bacteria like Salmonella enteritidis and E. coli. Symptoms of these infections include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, cramping, bloody stool, and fatigue.

Another risk is myiasis, an infection that occurs when maggots infest and feed on living tissue. While more common in tropical and subtropical countries, this condition can affect the gastrointestinal tract when maggots are ingested. Symptoms include stomach upset, vomiting, and diarrhea, and the condition requires medical attention.

Some individuals may also experience allergic reactions to maggots, including respiratory and asthmatic symptoms or contact dermatitis.

Healthline advises that anyone who develops unusual symptoms after consuming maggot-infested food should contact a doctor.

"Goobers really had some Goobers in them," a person said.

"I deadass think I would file a lawsuit," another wrote.

"You just saved my life, bro I was about to eat the exact candy. Thank you so much," a commenter added.
