Roscommon and district league bow out of Oscar Traynor cup | Shannonside.ie

The Roscommon & District league bowed out of this seasons Oscar Traynor Cup, beaten 5-2 by the Sligo/Leitrim league away at McSharry Park Sligo.

The visitors started well and took the lead after 14 minutes. A great ball over the defence by David Flanagan reached Tommy Hurley and the St. Johns player beat the Sligo keeper to score.

The hosts were level after 23 minutes as Shane Rooney got clear and gave Conor Cooke no chance from close range shot.

Two minutes later Ryan McManus gave the hosts a 2-1 lead from the penalty spot after a hand ball.

The Roscommon keeper made a good stop from Stephen Fallon. However, the ball broke to Israel Ayorinde to finish from close range.

The Roscommon and District League got back in the game just before half-time. Charles Nevin found Cian Kelly with a neat pass and he was taken down. Nevin converted the penalty kick.

The visitors piled on the pressure in the second-half with Cathal Horan, Jay Mc Philbin and Stephen Murray causing plenty of problems for the home defence.

However, with the visitors committed to going forward, Sligo/Leitrim Stephen Fallon made it 4 -2 with 10 minutes remaining.

And in time added on at the end Ashton Conlon converted a penalty as Sligo/Leitirm won out 5-2.

Glen Celic and Ballyboro, the top two teams in the Killeen's Sports Grounds Division 2 clashed at the League grounds, Lecarrow on Friday night. The six goal thriller finished level.

Three times the Glenamaddy side were in front only to be pegged back by the Ballyleague/Lanesboro side.

Aaron Comer gave Glen Celtic the lead after nine minutes of play following a good through ball. Whereas, David Rooney had the side's level seven minutes later with a neat finish.

Glen Celtic regained through Ethan O'Dowd. However, Aidan Dooney levelled the game with two minutes into first-half injury time.

Michael Henehhan made it 3-2 for the Glenamaddy side on 51 minutes, with David Rooney got his second six minutes later.

Both teams had chances to win the game but overall, a share of the spoils was a fair result.

Rahara Rovers drew 1-1 with Lough Harps in an entertaining game at Rahara. The visitors got off to a good start with an Eamon Phillips goal.

Rahara were better in the second-half and a Daniel Crehan lob was saved by the alert Lough Harps keeper.

Darren Donnelly levelled the game on 65 minutes with an excellent volleyed into the top corner of the visitors net.

Overall a fair result with both teams fielding many young players.

Roscommon United first side had a hard earned 1-0 win over St. Cuans/Ahascragh United at Roscommon.

The only goal of the game came with ten minutes of play remaining when Gustavo Araujo scored for the winners.

Ballinagare had a comfortable 7-3 wins over Cloonfad's second side at Cloonfad.

Aaron Dowd opened the scoring for Ballinagare after nine minutes. However, Jack Sullivan scored two quick goals for Cloonfad within three minutes.

Sam French, Aaron Dowd and Jack Mc Dermott added three more before the break with Aaron Dowd completing his hat-trick before John Stokes and Jack Mc Dermott added two more.

The Cloonfad third came by way of an own goal.

Moore United "B" beat Roscommon United 6-1 with Shane Lacey gave Moore an early lead.

Macken, Kenny, O'Hanlon, Whelan and McManus added five more before the end. Aidan Taylor replied for the losers.

In the only game played in the Women's League Dunmore Town beat Kilkerrin United 2-1 at Kilkerrin.

Lily Concannon and Erika Diskin scored for Dunmore, while an own goal kept Kilkerrin in the game until the final whistle.
