Food contamination is becoming a growing concern, with a significant increase in illnesses reported in 2024.
According to a report by the Public Interest Research Group, most illnesses last year were linked to just 13 outbreaks.
Despite numerous food recalls in 2024, researchers identified salmonella, listeria, and E. coli as the most common reasons for these recalls. The report highlights a troubling rise in fatalities, with 19 people dying from illnesses related to contaminated food, which is double the number from 2023.
The findings underscore the need for increased awareness and preventive measures to address food safety concerns.
Community members are encouraged to stay informed about food recalls and practice safe food handling to protect themselves and their families.
