QUEEN CREEK, AZ (AZFamily) -- An East Valley school is honoring first responders and remembering those who lost their lives during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Legacy Traditional School's Queen Creek campus held a helicopter fly-in on Thursday to welcome students as they arrived to school. Students got to see the chopper up-close right before classes begun and spoke with pilots.
"We want to honor our first responders. Every day, these men and women put their lives on the line. We want to make sure that the sacrifices that these people make, the sacrifices of the past that were made, so they can understand why these people are so important to our communities," said Dr. Devin Miller, director of school operations.
Dr. Miller says the helicopter is a way to show children some of the things first responders do to protect the lives of others.
First responders and their families were also invited to a complimentary breakfast provided by the school. In addition, children read patriotic poems and speeches honoring all of our first responders.
