Arkansas Father Launches Campaign To Become Sheriff While Awaiting Murder Trial - Rare

Hearing that a man awaiting trial for murder is running for sheriff might seem like a red flag, but that isn't stopping one Arkansas father.

In the olden days of the US, a gun-toting, law-enforcing, man of god was what the country needed as a sheriff. They were required to be honest, quick on the draw, and unshakable in their judgment. At least by Wild West standards.

Aaron Spencer of Arkansas is taking it back to the old school. He's a man who clearly believes in hard justice and is running for sheriff while awaiting trial for murder. Spencer wants to become sheriff of Lonoke County despite awaiting a murder trial for the death of Michael Fosler.

Taking Matters Into His Own Hands: Fosler, 67, was standing trial for a litany of heinous charges involving Spencer's daughter. There were more than 40 sexual offenses against the young child. These included sexual assault, indecency, stalking, and possession of child pornography.

The alleged child abuser was released on bond when he kidnapped Spencer's 13-year-old daughter. Spencer, the sheriff hopeful, found Fosler with his daughter in Fosler's van. According to court documents, Spencer allegedly shot him to death. Fosler was pronounced dead at the scene. Spencer then called 911 and was accused of second-degree murder.

Despite awaiting a trial for murder, while released on bail, Spencer has decided to run for Sheriff.

A Sheriff With Clear Morals

Spencer has run with this, despite his murder trial, and used his upcoming trial as a foundation for his sheriff application.

"It's time to bring trust, accountability, and safety back to our community. Join us on this journey to build a Sheriff's Office you can believe in. Many of you know my story. I'm the father who acted to protect his daughter when the system failed. I refuse to stand by while others face these same failures" Continuing on his Facebook campaign video, he said, "This campaign isn't about me. It's about every parent, every neighbor, every family who deserves to feel safe in their homes and safe in their community. It's about restoring trust where neighbors know law enforcement is on their side and families know that they will not be left alone in a moment of need."

No Faith: Spencer feels he was let down by the policing system. They not only dragged their feet to persecute, but also released an alleged pedophile. He was further let down when, after he allegedly shot him, a gag order was put over the whole situation.

But if he wants to become sheriff, he'll have to avoid going to prison himself.
