Half term is officially upon us and whilst the days are still short and the weather is cold, it can be tricky finding ways to keep the kids entertained. It can also be difficult finding things that the whole family can enjoy together without breaking the bank.
With kids breaking up on Friday, February 14, and not expected to return to school until Monday, February 24, we have rounded up a range of free and low cost half term activities that you might want to try out this week. These are just some of the events taking place in Lincolnshire this week, and includes activities in the city itself as well as across the wider county.
Lincoln Lights
On Thursday, February 20, and Friday, February 21 a free event will be taking place in Lincoln. The light festival will transform the city with bright colours and illuminations, giving visitors a chance to see the city like never before. The family-friendly event will take place from 5.30pm to 9.30pm each night.
Wyndham Park Visitor Centre
From Tuesday, February 18, to Friday, February 21, there will be free craft sessions taking place at Wyndham Park in Grantham. The sessions are designed for the whole family to enjoy, and will take place between 11am and 3pm. The sessions include card marking, colouring and other crafts.
Lincoln Youth Matters
Based in the same car park area as the Yarborough Leisure Centre, on Tuesday, February 18, Lincoln Youth Matters will be hosting a range of creative activities for kids. The create and connect event will involve craft activities, interactive storytelling and circus skills. All of the activities are free, but some activities do require places to be booked.
Navigation House
At the Navigation House in Sleaford there will be a range of free activities taking place for kids to get creative. These events will last from 10am to 2pm and will take place on Monday, February 17, Friday, February 21, Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23.
Lincolnshire Wildlife Park
For the whole month of February the Lincolnshire Wildlife Park is giving kids free access to the site, which means only the adults need a ticket. Although this is not a free activity children's tickets usually cost £10.50 per child aged between three and 15 years old, which means if you were planning on visiting now would be a great time to go and save some money. Adult tickets still cost £14.95 per person aged 16 to 59 years old. The park is open seven days a week from 9.30am until 4pm.
Magna Vitae Sport & Activity
This February half term Magna Vitae is running a range of free sports and activity sessions with East Lindsey District Council. This includes football, netball, futsal, golf, dance, basketball, multi skills and dodgeball depending on the day and the area. Areas with free activities taking place include North Somercotes, Binbrook, Wragby, Alford, Spilsby, Wainfeet, Coningsby, Tattershall and Horncastle. More information on activities and dates can be found on the Magna Vitae Sport & Activity Facebook page and website.
Illuminate 2025
On Friday, February 21, there will be the annual light event in Gainsborough. This free event includes a lantern parade led by the Samba Band, as well as a fire garden at All Saints' Church and projections inside Gainsborough Old Hall. This annual event will start at 6pm and last until 8pm.
Lincoln Museum
This half term children can complete a mysterious quest at the museum to find the missing key and there is also the chance for them to build their own sculptures inspired by the From the Land exhibition. This free activity is great for all ages to get involved with, and the quest is available at The Collection reception desk. However, charges do apply for those wanting to take part in the craft activity.
