Rob Lowe has a fiery take on the sex scene discourse.
While the 9-1-1: Lone Star alum knows that filming those scenes sometimes comes with the job of being an actor, he doesn't understand why actors are being praised for filming them -- specifically, Nicole Kidman's steamy role in A24's Babygirl.
"They're like, 'It's so brave. She's so brave,'" Lowe, 60, said to Sex and The City star Kristin Davis on the Feb. 27 episode of his Literally! podcast. "She's brave because she has a sex scene? Like, that's brave now. In our day, it was required."
During his rise to fame, Lowe said a sex scene often made an appearance in the "mid-second act" of a project, joking, "You didn't have to read the whole script. You just went to page 73."
"I know, they Blue Lagoon it," Lowe -- who shares sons Matthew Edward Lowe, 32, and John Owen Lowe, 29, with wife Sheryl Berkoff -- continued, "[and] be with each other on a moonlit night. But, now it's so brave."
His recent words seem to be a nod at Kidman's costar Harris Dickinson, who praised her while sharing some behind the scenes light into their intimate scenes.
"She sets the tone on set, and she makes it so easy to be vulnerable because she is so daring," Dickinson, who plays an intern that has an intense affair with her CEO character, said in an October 2024 interview with Variety. "She's so brave and you're like, 'What the f--k is that?' You can't even think of it. She's just got this innate sense of playfulness. And when you have that on set, everything's so easy."
