"The November meeting will feature a cookie exchange, as part of preparations for the annual julefest, or Christmas celebration in December," Scandiana Lodge Publicity Director Jim Nelson said. "The tradition of preparing seven different types of baked cookies at the beginning of Advent will be explained."
The local Scandiana Lodge 600 in Northwest Indiana has been meeting since 1984, originally convening at the now-bygone Red Lantern Inn in Beverly Shores. It has celebrated Scandinavian culture in a number of ways, including with folk dancing, rosemaling classes, ski days, beach bonfires observing Saint Hans Dag and participation in Arlington Heights' Syttende Mai parade.
