Paving his own way within the dance scene, ARELLA (real name Jackson McClaren) is the epitome of an act that has not only dedicated his life into mastering his craft, but at the same time, ensures that his attention to detail will help in him standing out from all the rest. Following a vision of challenging the conventions of tech house whilst staying true to its core, this fast-rising star brings nothing less than the absolute heat with each and every one of his productions. An act that shows no signs of slowing down, we could not be any happier to be joined by the man of the moment, as he discusses main inspirations and influences, the origin of his style of play, the message that he has set out to convey through his music, his rise within the underground scene, the release of his latest single 'Don't Tell Me,' the significance behind a well-equipped team and so much more.

Hello and thank you for joining us! Could you provide us with an insight on the main inspirations/influences that led to your chosen career pathway in music?

"Thank you for having me! My musical journey started with a deep love for 90's and early 2000's hip-hop, particularly the work of producers like J Dilla and 9th Wonder. Their ability to craft soulful, emotive beats with intricate rhythms really shaped my approach to production early on. When I discovered tech house, it completely changed my perspective on music. The energy, the groove, and the hypnotic elements drew me in, artists like and Green Velvet pushed me further into the electronic side of things. By 2023, I knew tech house was where I wanted to be, and it became the foundation of my sound. It allowed me to blend my early influences with a more atmospheric and darker energy, creating a style that feels both personal and fresh. That fusion has shaped my journey as an artist."

With versatility a key aspect in the dance scene, we would like to know the origin of your style of play, and how it has evolved over time?

"My style is rooted in tech house, but I've always pushed the boundaries. Early on, I experimented with bass house elements, especially after I made 'Too Late For Apologies,' blending those heavy basslines with techy grooves. My style has evolved by incorporating more minimal elements while maintaining that underground energy. Each track is a new chapter in my creative journey, and I try to bring versatility into everything I do."

Challenging the conventions of tech-house, could you talk us through your approach towards music production, and what you have set out to convey through your music?

"In terms of production, I love flipping expectations .I like to blend deep, soulful elements with hard-hitting rhythms. My goal is to create tracks that are more than just danceable -- they're emotional and immersive. I often take inspiration from different musical influences, fusing them with a tech house structure to challenge expectations. I want my music to move people not just physically but emotionally as well."

Paving your way within the underground scene, we would like to know your own view on your journey in the industry, as well as the audiences you have set out to resonate with?

"The underground scene is a community, and my journey has been about contributing to and growing within that. I've been lucky to have mentors like Stryer, and a videographer of Jeremys caliber who have helped me find my voice and imagery. The audience I resonate with is anyone who's down for an authentic, raw experience -- people who love those late-night club vibes or warehouse parties. I want my music to speak to the dreamers, the ravers, and anyone looking for an escape through sound."

Set to release your latest single, 'Don't Tell Me,' could you talk us through the main thought process behind this production, and how it may differ from your previous releases?

"'Don't Tell Me' reflects the raw, unapologetic side of myself that I rarely show. With this track, I wanted to explore the darker side of tech house in a way that feels minimal yet powerful -- where every element has room to breathe, but the track still drives forward with intensity. The minimalism was intentional. I've always been fascinated by the idea that less can be more -- how a simple, carefully chosen rhythm or bassline can create movement and energy. With "Don't Tell Me," I stripped away any unnecessary layers to focus on the core sound. It's deep, gritty, and carries a raw, hypnotic energy that defines the track. Mood-wise, 'Don't Tell Me' is undeniably dark. It feels like it's lurking in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to pull you in deeper. The title, 'Don't Tell Me,' speaks to the feeling I wanted to evoke. It's about the unspoken tension that arises when things are left unsaid -- like the silence before something happens. In the track, the bassline communicates everything without a word.This track marks a departure from my previous work and reflects my evolving sound. It's darker, harder, and more stripped down, yet still driven by that unmistakable tech house energy. 'Don't Tell Me' is meant to be felt -- through the body, through the pulse of the bass, and through the minimal but bouncing groove."

Contributing to your ongoing rise within the dance scene, we would like to know the significance behind a well-equipped team, and how their support has helped in your development thus far?

"Having a solid team is everything. My videographer, Jeremy Thomas (Jeremy Visuals), captures my vision in a way that truly represents my brand. And, of course, Stryer has been an incredible mentor, guiding me through the industry. My team also includes a couple close friends whose constant support motivates me to keep pushing forward. It's that collaborative energy that helps me focus on the music, knowing I have a strong foundation behind me."

With 2025 in full flow, could you provide us with an insight on what the future holds for ARELLA, always in terms of new music, upcoming collaborations and live performances?

"2025 is all about growth. I've got new music lined up, including a few exciting collaborations with artists I admire. I'm also looking forward to playing more live shows and connecting with audiences in new cities. My sound will continue to evolve, with more experimental production while keeping that tech house essence alive. Stay tuned for more immersive live experiences and innovative releases!"
