Ask a local: Rav Matharu's guide to London's fashion and arts

The man behind Savile Row's only bespoke streetwear store picks his beloved city hotspots

Three years ago, British Indian designer Rav Matharu created Savile Row history. His fashion label, clothsurgeon, became the first bespoke streetwear store in London's hallowed Mayfair area, home to the biggest names in classic English tailoring. The ultimate cherry on top? It also made Matharu the first-ever South Asian store owner in this prestigious zip code. A professional football player turned fashion designer, Matharu started the brand 13 years ago, fusing streetwear with the ethos of luxury men's tailoring. Today, his list of star patrons includes Nas, A$AP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott.

A Leeds native whose roots go back to Punjab, Matharu moved to London in 2009. He was instantly hooked by the city's atmosphere. "London, apart from Tokyo, is the greatest city in the world. It has this dynamic energy, blend of culture, history, global connectivity and innovation," he says. As a longtime native, Matharu runs down some of his favourite central London fixtures.
