Like other towns throughout Ceredigion, Cardigan has been harnessing the power for some of its Christmas decorations by utilising Ceredigion County Council lamp-post power sources.
The ending of this practice means the town council will have to install its own supply box feeder from the National Grid at a cost of around £1,000 each - and they will probably require three.
"It's a case of the county council tightening their belt by preventing town and community councils from not paying for their own power source over Christmas," said a spokesperson.
"We pay the Guildhall for some power too, so our costs for the decorations will go up."
