Teen cousins hit by car in Lincoln Park remain in critical condition at Children's Hospital

LINCOLN PARK, Mich. - Teen cousins hit while crossing Fort Street in Lincoln Park are currently in the ICU at Children's Hospital in downtown Detroit.

Loved ones are hoping and praying the two cousins, ages 15 and 13, will make a full recovery.

Christopher Walker is the father of the 15-year-old who spoke to Local 4 over the phone.

"We are just taking it a step at a time - hoping that the outcome is good. We're just hoping the outcome is the same the next day," said Walker.

Officers and first responders shut down part of Fort Street to investigate the incident.

Witnesses told us that both boys may have been crossing the street while the light was green for oncoming traffic, resulting in the two being hit by a driver traveling south.

"We did hear it was a woman, I believe. We have no knowledge of who the person is," Walker said.

Flip-flops and clothing on the ground mark the exact spot where the boys were hit.

Bob Turkowski saw the aftermath.

"It was very horrible. I was driving on the other side. I saw several police cars, and then I stopped at the light at the other side, and I looked to the left and I saw two bodies lying down and the police officers kind of tending to them. I saw a puddle of blood in one area, and it just didn't look good," said Turkowski.

Of course, people in the area who witnessed the major police presence during the investigation are hoping for a full recovery for the teens as well.

"It was pretty bad. There were a lot of cars here, 30 cop cars here, and they said it was a mess. But I pray for the family and friends. It's just a tragedy," said Shawn Clapper.

It's unclear if the driver will face any charges.
