MANILA, Philippines -- Rains are seen to persist in large parts of the country on Tuesday, brought by the low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) and the southwest monsoon or habagat, the state weather bureau said.
In its Tuesday morning weather update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA, which was last spotted 865 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, is expected to bring cloudy skies with a high chance of rain over the following areas:
* Cagayan Valley
* Central Luzon
* Ifugao
* Benguet
Weather specialist Obet Badrina said the LPA still has a "low" chance of becoming a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.

"This low pressure area will continue to move northward and outward and either dissipate or exit the [PAR] if it does not develop into a tropical depression," Badrina said.
Cloudy skies with a high chance of rain are likewise expected to prevail over the following areas due to the habagat:
* Metro Manila
* Calabarzon: (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon)
* Mimaropa: (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan)
* Western Visayas
* Camarines Norte
* Camarines Sur
Meanwhile, the habagat is expected to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the following areas:
* Zamboanga Peninsula
* Northern Mindanao
* Caraga
* The rest of Visayas

As for the rest of Mindanao, fair weather conditions are expected, but isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are also possible from afternoon to evening due to the localized thunderstorms. /das
