The Hutchinson girls soccer team opened its Wright County Conference season at home Thursday, and the Tigers lost a 9-0 rout to the Orono Spartans.
Orono is the No. 2 ranked team in the latest Class A ratings, but on Tuesday it beat out Benilde-St. Margaret's, the No. 1 team, 1-0.
Hutch kept the Spartans scoreless for a few minutes in the first half, but eventually yielded a ninth-minute goal to get them going. A few minutes later the Spartans went on a scoring streak with three straight goals in the 12th, 13th and 14th minutes. The finished the half with a 6-0 lead.
Orono called the dogs off a little in the second half, but still managed to score three more goals while holding Hutch scoreless. The Spartans outshot the Tigers 14-1.
Hutch (1-2-2, 0-1 WCC) is scheduled to play Section 2A rival Willmar at 5 p.m. Saturday in its first road match of the year. The Tigers are back on the road 7 p.m. match Tuesday again WCC opponent Mound-Westonka.
