With the girls' basketball season heating up in the Siouxland area, multiple teams and players have set themselves apart from the pack. Highlighted by statement wins and dominant performances, here are the top five teams and players from the week of Jan. 20.

The Briar Cliff University recruit shot over 60% in the Class 4A No. 1-ranked Crusaders' 77-33 win over Sioux City North last week to finished with 17 points seven points, five steals, three assists and two blocks. Ranschau went for 21, 26 and 27 points over the last three games -- all wins -- for the Class 2A No. 5-ranked Rockets (13-1). Ranschau is averaging over 20 points per game this season to go with three steals and over two rebounds and more than two assists a contest. Twin sister Haevyn Ranschau and senior Miylie Zomer are both in double figures for scoring average, with Zomer nearly at a double-double with 13.2 points and 9.8 rebounds per game as Rock Valley has rattled off 13 straight wins since losing its season opener to Sioux Center, a team the Rockets have since beat.

Aubrey Metzger, Central Lyon, senior

Metzger is going for a double-double on the season as she's averaging 17.2 points and 10.8 rebounds this season for the Class 2A No. 6 Lions (12-3). Central Lyon lost one of the program's best in Desta Hoogendoorn -- now at Dordt University -- after last season's state tournament run, but Metzger has stepped up to put Central Lyon atop the Siouxland Conference yet again. A showdown at Sioux Center on Tuesday will factor heavily in the stretch run. Metzger had 17 points nad 12 rebounds in the Lions' 59-54 win over the Warriors earlier this season.

Annie Metzger, West Lyon, senior

Ranked 11th in Class 2A, the Wildcats sport an 11-5 record for the season, and Metzger is leading the way at 15.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game on 56% shooting from the field. West Lyon has won five of its last six, including a 52-40 victory over 1A No. 15 St. Ansgar. Metzger also led the Wildcats with 13 points and eight rebounds in a one-point win (49-48) over MOC-Floyd Valley.

Lindsey Haken, George-Little Rock, junior

Haken is going for double-doubles nightly for the Mustangs (10-5) as she's averaging 15.3 points and 10.5 rebounds plus 4.9 steals and 3.9 assists an outing. She's made 16 of 40 attempts from 3-point range (40%) for the campaign. Haken leads the War Eagle Conference in rebounding and is third in the conference's scoring leaders.

Top 5 Teams Homer Knights

Since losing to Class D-1 top-ranked Pender on Jan. 14, Class C-2 No. 5 Homer (14-1) has went for three wins, all by double digits. That span started with a dominant 63-15 win over Randolph and then included victories over Tri-County Northeast (67-34) and Omaha Nation (63-50). Senior Morningisde University recruit Alexandra Albrecht is leading way for the Knights at 17 points per game. Junior Lilly Harris isn't far behind at 14.2 points per game while senior Tori Walker leads the team in assist average (3.3) and junior Janessa Overgaard leads in rebounds per contest (7.3).

Dakota Valley Panthers

The Class A No. 3-ranked Panthers (11-0) had four players score in double figures in a 68-44 victory over Bennett County. Freshmen Aubree Worden and Katie Betsworth shared the game-high with 17 points apiece while classmate Ella Otten had 13 points and senior Emersen Mead went for 14 points, six rebounds, two steals and two locks.

Otten led the team with eight rebounds. Betsworth had three of the team's five 3-pointers for the game, and DV finished with 16 steals and three blocks as a team. The Panthers play No. 1-ranked Sioux Falls Christian at home on Thursday.

Hinton Blackhawks

The Class 2A No. 4-ranked Blackhawks sit at 14-0 and have three games left to wrap up the War Eagle Conference slate. Junior standout Sydney Doeschot topped 1,000 career points earlier this season but had found a niche as Hinton's primary distributor this season as she's leading the squad in assists per game at 5.4 an outing. Sophomore Addison Glass is also averaging double figure points while junior Karlyn Kovarna's energentic play has contributed in all facets, including a team-best 6.1 rebounds per game.

Freshman Raelyn Kempema has been a revelation as a post presence for the Blackhawks. She's averaging 8.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.1 steals, 2.2 blocks and two assists per contest.

Sioux Center Warriors

The Class 4A seventh-ranked Warriors (14-2) have spun five straight wins since losing to 2A No. 5 Rock Valley on Jan. 10. Sophomore Maryn Franken went for 27 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks in the team's 62-34 win over MOC-Floyd Valley. Prior to that, it was senior Makailyn Vander Waal who shined as she poured in 26 points with eight boards in a 63-39 victory over Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

Franken, Vander Waal and senior Margo Schuiteman are averaging in double figures to lead Sioux Center's scoring attack while the same three are all grabbing over six boards per game as well. The Warriors can stake a claim atop the Siouxland Conference on Tuesday with a home win over 2A No. 6 Central Lyon.

River Valley Wolverines

The resurrected program is no longer part of a co-op with Kingsley-Pierson and has a winning record at 9-8 under head coach Kory Dausel. The Wolverines won two games last week: a 59-30 victory of Glidden-Ralstron and a 49-44 win over Lawton-Bronson. Senior Myah Dausel is going for averages of 12.1 points, 6.3 rebounds 3.5 assists and 2.6 steals.
