GRAND RAPIDS, MI - A CVS pharmacy store at the corner of Leonard Street and Fuller Avenue is closing next month as part of a companywide restructure.
CVS Pharmacy at 1155 Fuller Ave. NE in Grand Rapids is shutting its doors on March 6, CVS spokesperson Amy Thibault said in a statement.
"Maintaining access to pharmacy services in the communities we serve is an important factor we consider when making store closure decisions," Thibault said. "Other factors include local market dynamics, population shifts, a community's store density and ensuring there are other geographic access points to meet the needs of the community."
All prescriptions will be transferred to the nearest CVS Pharmacy at 1550 Lake Drive SE in Grand Rapids' Eastown, which is about 2.5 miles away. Patients can choose to fill their prescriptions at another CVS Pharmacy or the pharmacy of their choice if another is more convenient, Thibault said.
There are two Walgreens pharmacies within a mile of the Fuller Avenue CVS, one directly north at 1964 Fuller Ave. NE and one directly south at 425 Fuller Ave. NE.
All employees at the Fuller Avenue CVS are being offered comparable roles within the company, Thibault said.
Multiple outlets reported CVS plans to close 270 stores nationwide this year. The company said the closures are not due to industry pressure but are part of a strategy launched in 2021 to position stores to better serve customers based on population density.
CVS said it also plans to open an additional 30 stores, including inside Target locations, in 2025.
