Rhode Islanders reeling after South Kingstown staple goes up in flames

(WJAR) -- Rhode Islanders are reeling after a staple of South Kingstown went up in flames on Tuesday.

The fire at Matunuck Oyster Bar started a little before 4:00 a.m. and eventually left it unsalvageable.

Luckily, no one was injured, but the flames were still heartbreaking.

The fire was put out in about an hour and a half. The building sustained significant damage.

While the structure is still standing the Union Fire District Chief says it could be a total loss.

The owner says their next step is to find assistance for their 300 fulltime and seasonal employees.
