FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE -- The United Nations confirmed Monday that María Ángela Holguín, the personal envoy of Secretary-General António Guterres, has postponed her scheduled visit to Cyprus due to an unforeseen personal matter.
A UN spokesperson said Holguín plans to reschedule the trip, though no new date has been announced.
Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis told state radio the Cypriot government was informed of the delay on Sunday.
He said efforts are underway to ensure Holguín's visit takes place before the UN General Assembly later this month, depending on her availability.
Letymbiotis described the visit as essential ahead of a planned trilateral meeting between Guterres, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar in New York.
