Australian woman arrested at Changi Airport over suspected theft of supplements

SINGAPORE: A 51-year-old Australian woman has been arrested for her suspected involvement in a case of shop theft in Changi Airport, said the police on Nov 11.

The police were alerted on May 7 at about 2.45pm to a case of shop theft after a box of supplements, valued at S$507.30, was found to be missing from the display shelf of a Guardian outlet in the transit area of Changi Airport Terminal 1.

With the aid of images from CCTV cameras, the police established the identity of the woman, who was seen allegedly leaving the outlet with the unpaid item on April 14, but she had already departed from Singapore.

On Nov 2, the woman returned to Singapore and was arrested while in transit for another flight at Changi Airport.

She will be charged on Nov 12 with the offence of theft in dwelling. If convicted, she can be jailed for up to seven years, fined or both.

There were 2,097 shop theft cases in the first half of 2025, up from 2,013 cases during the same period in 2024.

Shop theft was the most common physical crime in 2024, with 4,237 cases - a 7.6 per cent increase from 3,939 cases in 2023. - The Straits Times/ANN
