GREENWOOD, Ind. -- A fire at a Greenwood apartment complex left a person dead, the Greenwood Fire Department announced on Sunday.

According to GFD, firefighters were dispatched to the 800 block of Clearview Drive in the Clearview Apartments Sunday morning, on the report of an explosion. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered a single-story multi-family structure with fire showing. Evacuation had already begun.

GFD said they completed an initial search of the building and cleared all occupants, but could not search the primary apartment where the fire was coming from due to the fire's large presence and multiple structural hazards inside it.

One person in that primary apartment was found dead, per GFD.

The investigation remains ongoing. GFD stated the cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
