Elect 'BC bidda' to counter Centre on quota bills, says TPCC president Mahesh Goud | Hyderabad News - The Times of India

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Sunday urged all the 120-odd sub castes among Backward Classes (BCs) to unite in support of V Naveen Yadav in the Jubilee Hills bypoll. He said the move will send a clear message to the Centre that the proposed 42% reservation has brought together all the BCs.Speaking at an Athmeeya Sammelanam meeting of Munnur Kapus and Kapus, the TPCC chief stated that the movement for 42% quota would be strengthened if 'BC bidda' Naveen Yadav of the Congress secured a decisive victory in the bypoll. On the occasion, Munnuru Kapus and Kapus pledged their support to the Congress in the Jubilee Hills byelection. The constituency, which is heading for a bypoll, has nearly 1.50 lakh BC voters of the total 4 lakh electorate, with Munnuru Kapus and Kapus making up nearly 40,000 voters.Mahesh Goud emphasised that the unity of the Munnur Kapu and Kapu communities would play a crucial role in ensuring Naveen Yadav's victory. He described the bypoll as a prestige battle for the BCs, asserting that their unity would bolster the 42% quota movement in Telangana and at the national level. Despite being from the Reddy community, the movement is being led by chief minister A Revanth Reddy, based on a promise made by Rahul Gandhi, Mahesh Goud noted. The Congress high command selected Naveen Yadav to contest from Jubilee Hills, recognising the strength of the BC slogan. Mahesh Goud said it was now the community's responsibility to ensure his victory with a huge majority. "Rahul Gandhi's call for social justice had become a people's movement, inspiring BCs to fight for 42% reservation, and the entire country was observing how Rahul's vision had empowered the BCs," he added. The TPCC president highlighted that the Congress has consistently provided leadership opportunities, including PCC presidentships, to leaders from the BC community in both undivided state and Telangana. He asserted that in the future, a 'BC bidda' would definitely become the chief minister of Telangana, a possibility only with the Congress and not with the BRS or the BJP."If BJP leaders were truly committed to the political empowerment of the BCs, the 42% BC reservation bills would have been approved by the President of India months ago. The BJP, like the BRS, is lacking sincerity towards BC welfare," he alleged.Meanwhile, BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar and TPCC chief Mahesh Goud, during their morning walk at Krishnakanth Park in the Jubilee Hills constituency, appealed to walkers to support Naveen Yadav in the bypoll. They informed the walkers that the development of Jubilee Hills is possible only under the Congress govt. "Naveen is a local, educated, and people-friendly leader who is always accessible to residents and committed to addressing their issues," they said. Later, Ponnam, MP Mallu Ravi and other leaders carried out a door-to-door campaign.
