Students camp out in anticipation for top-10 matchup between Texas Tech, Houston

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Nearly 400 Texas Tech students stood in line today in anticipation for the second meeting between No. 10 Texas Tech and No. 4 Houston on the year.

Some students, as it's been seen in the past, popped up tents and have been waiting for several days for the game outside of the United Supermarkets Arena.

"You know, we are doing it how we do it, we are showing the rest of the nation what they need to be doing," one student said. "I mean, we have a great student section, everybody shows up and shows out every game, whether its a top-10 matchup like Houston or non conference games, they are all here."

Students say the atmosphere over the weekend has been electric. More students as of 6 p.m. Monday began filing in line behind those who decided to camp.

Currently, the Red Raiders are tied w

ith the Arizona Wildcats for the second-best record in Big 12 Conference play, behind the Cougars. Texas Tech and Arizona sit with a 12-4 Big 12 record while Houston is at the top with a 15-1 conference mark.

"Get loud, join the chants, stand up and get hype, not just the student section, but we need the rest of the (arena), too," another student said. "Especially any big play, like that just makes it so much harder for them on offense and defense, so that's just huge for the team."
