Better liquoring tea prices up in Coonoor Auctions

Active participation of blenders and upcountry buyers lifted prices of better liquoring sorts at Coonoor Tea auctions, despite lower sales percentage.

Traders pointed out that there was a 10 per cent drop in crop arrivals to the auction platform due to adverse weather conditions in the production regions and the crop availability is expected to improve following favourable weather.

Global Tea Auctioneers said that the offered quantity in leaf was 15,49,942 kg, witnessing 87 per cent sales, while for dust grades, the figure was 3,96,355 kg, registering sales percentage of 91.

Homedale Premium-RD sold at ₹231 is the highest prices realised in leaf and dust category for any CTC bought leaf factory in sale 36.

In CTC leaf, the high-priced teas and better liquoring sorts were barely steady to occasionally dearer by ₹3 to ₹4 and more at times in line with quality; occasionally some lots sold easier by ₹2 to ₹3 also. The better medium sort of bolders and brokens sold fully firm to dearer by ₹2 to ₹3.

In leaf orthodox, the primary whole leaf grades had fair demand and sold dearer by ₹5 to ₹6.

The high-priced teas and better liquoring sorts in CTC dust were lower by ₹5 to ₹6. The better medium sorts had fair demand and sold dearer by ₹1 to ₹2. The medium sorts had good demand and sold fully firm to dearer by ₹1 to ₹2 and more at times in line with quality.

The primary orthodox dust grades were dearer by ₹5 to ₹6 and more at times in line with quality, occasionally some lots sold easier by ₹3 to ₹4 also.
