Update on storm as Met Office gives exact time 80mph winds hit South West | Devon Live

The Met Office has announced a Yellow wind alert for several regions across the UK for Sunday and Monday. The Met Office has forecast breezy conditions on Friday with overnight showers in the western coastal areas becoming more widespread.

In the new alert the Met Office is warning that the high winds will hit at 9pm on Sunday, September 14 and last until 7pm on Monday. Affected areas include London and South East England, North West England, South West England, and Wales.

The regions will be battered by gale-force winds.A Met Office forecast said: "An area of low pressure will bring a prolonged spell of windy weather through Sunday evening and into Monday. Gusts of around 50-60 mph are likely around coasts and hills, with 70-80 mph possible in the most exposed locations, with the windiest conditions expected on Monday morning and moving eastwards as the day progresses."

The warning means some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely, tThere is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.

There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris with a small chance that some roads and bridges could close;

The Met Office also warned of "unsettled conditions" over the weekend, with thunderstorms and strong winds expected to hit the UK.

On Saturday, showers may be heavy in places with isolated thunderstorms. Stronger winds and coastal gales are also possible, according to the Met Office.

Despite the unpredictable conditions, forecasters say they are not expecting a named storm to the hit the country. Sunshine and drier conditions are most likely to be found in the east, though temperatures will remain on the cooler side, with highs of around 17C-18C expected in London on both Saturday and Sunday.

Paul Gundersen, chief meteorologist at the Met Office, said "We have been monitoring a deepening area of low pressure over the North Atlantic that might bring impactful weather to the UK, most likely on Sunday and Monday.
