The Forest Department along with law enforcement counterparts have arrested another 4 persons for illegal logging,
This time it happened in the Doubloon Lagoon, Orange Walk District. The bust occurred yesterday while an enforcement team was out patrolling and encountered a tractor bearing a Corozal license plate, and a white GMC truck transporting illegal logwood.
The four individuals, Martin Rosado, Diego Santos, Chad Vargas, and Aldair Correa failed to produce a valid forest permit to log and so they were all charged jointly for Unlawful Possession of Forest Produce.
Officers also impounded the vehicles, a chainsaw, a tractor battery, and approximately 100 logwood posts at the scene. They type of wood is known as "pinta". In a release issued by the department today, it says, "The public is reminded that harvesting, transporting, or possessing forest produce without the necessary permits is a criminal offense."
