MN Teen Vanishes After Escaping Deputy's Custody in Twin Cities

That's according to a news release issued by the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office on Monday.

The juvenile, who was originally detained by the Mankato Department of Public Safety, is alleged to have escaped from custody on Sunday morning.

The news release says a Blue Earth County Sheriff's Deputy was transporting 17-year-old Damario Dayshawn Latravis Williams to the Carver County Juvenile Detention Center in Chaska, which provides detention beds for in custody Blue Earth County juveniles.

Damario Williams was not wearing restraints, and fled from the deputy as the two were walking from the squad to the detention facility, authorities say.

An immediate search, involving a large police presence, K-9 units and drones, of the area was not successful and Damario Williams's current whereabouts are unknown, officials say.

The Carver County Sheriff's Office, which says there is no threat to the public, called off the active search for Damario Williams around 2:20 Sunday afternoon.

Authorities have not released the reason for the teenager's detainment. A photo of the teen is not available.

Damario Williams is described as 5'8" tall, light-skinned, African American, 140 pounds and was last seen wearing black and blue plaid pajama pants and a black hooded jacket.

Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding Damario Williams's whereabouts to contact the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office at (507) 304-4863 or report anonymously through crimestoppersmn.org.
