A reboot of A Walk to Remember is in the works 13 years after Shane West and Mandy Moore starred in the heart wrenching movie, the producers announced Feb. 27.
Monarch Media has secured the rights, with plans to work with the original film's producers Denise Di Novi and Hunt Lowry on a new adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' 1999 bestselling novel about love, forgiveness and the importance of living life to the fullest, centered around the story of Landon and Jamie -- an unlikely pair of high school sweethearts.
Steve Barnett, set to be on the producing team, said he looks forward to bringing the new adaption to life -- especially as he had a chance to work on the original film as well.
"A Walk to Remember has endured as a beloved coming-of-age drama, captivating audiences with its heartfelt story of young love, personal growth and the power of faith for decades," Barnett told Deadline. "We could not be more excited to bring a new version of Nicholas Sparks' timeless story to audiences and are particularly thrilled to work alongside the original film's producers, Denise and Hunt."
