Mysuru: Foresters carrying out a combing operation to rescue tigers prowling on the fringes of Bandipur Tiger Reserve suspect it could be the same tiger that killed two farmers on Oct 31 and Nov 7.An officer revealed that in both cases, the big cat that killed the farmers, Doddaningaiah and Dandanayak, appears to be the same because of the similarity in the type of attack. After pouncing on the farmers, the big cat tried to drag them inside the forest but ended up leaving the bodies inside the elephant-proof trench (EPT). However, it can be confirmed only after its capture. The rescue operation commenced simultaneously at all places where human killings occurred on Oct 26, Oct 31, and Nov 7. A tiger was sighted, while a tigress was captured at Mullur, where Rajashekar, a farmer, was found killed on Oct26.Principal Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Prabhas Chandra Ray, who is supervising the operation at Bandipur, said that foresters sighted the tiger twice since Friday, but the team couldn't tranquilise the tiger because of darkness. A tiger was also sighted near the human kill area on Saturday, but couldn't be darted. The rescue operation has continued at all three places where human killings happened due to the tiger attack.A tigress and its sub-adult cubs have been rescued at Badagalapura village, where Mahadevagowda was attacked and injured on Oct 16. A tigress is prowling near Mullur, where the place is covered with shrubs and an irrigation canal, creating a challenging situation for the team in the rescue operation. The tigress has been captured in a camera trap and is sighted only during the night.
