A 64-year-old woman and her 2-year-old grandson were hit by a pickup truck inside a crosswalk, and the child was killed, Texas police said.
The fatal crash happened Dec. 12 at about 10:30 a.m. in southwest Houston, KHOU reported.
Police said a preliminary investigation showed the woman was pushing the toddler in a stroller when a truck turning left failed to yield at the intersection and struck them, KTRK reported.
The stroller got lodged under the Chevy Silverado, KPRC reported.
The child was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Houston Police Department Cmdr. Donna Crawford in a news conference shared by KTRK.
"The grandmother did have injuries and she is expected to survive," Crawford said.
The 25-year-old driver of the pickup showed no signs of intoxication and was released after questioning, KHOU reported, citing police.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed.
