This should be the final time to crack Penn State wrestling this season, even if just a bit.
The Top 10 Ohio State Buckeyes will be fueled by a nationally ranked lineup in a packed Columbus arena on Friday night with every intention of pushing the suddenly banged-up Nittany Lions harder than ever.
And yet how much different will it really look, in the end?
Penn State is not just the undefeated and No. 1 team in the nation, it continues to dominate at an unprecedented rate - even with two of its top wrestlers hurting. It expects to roll through its final two duals (vs. Illinois, American), then the Big Ten and NCAA championships.
The Ohio State hope for respectability, then, is this: Penn State may be missing starters at 133 pounds (No. 8 Braedan Davis) and 157 pounds (No. 1 Tyler Kasak). It also will be a rare underdog at 141, too, with Beau Bartlett facing No. 1 Jesse Mendez. (Mendez has won the past three matches between them).
The Buckeyes feature six wrestlers ranked among the nation's top 11 in their weight classes - and yet still remain a prohibitive underdog, overall, to the team that's won 68 straight dual meets.
