Aamir Khan Says He Got 400 Offers After Debut But 'Didn't Have Sense' To Pick Right Films: 'I Was Not Happy...'

Aamir Khan, one of Bollywood's biggest stars, recently opened up about a tough phase in his career during a heartfelt chat. Reflecting on the early days after his blockbuster debut Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988, the actor revealed how signing a string of unsuccessful films left him doubting himself. Known today for hits like Lagaan, Dangal, and 3 Idiots, Aamir admitted that his initial success was followed by a rough patch that tested his resilience and shook his confidence. Aamir also revealed that he received nearly 400 offers after his debut, but he didn't have the sense to pick the right films back then.

In the discussion, Aamir shared how he impulsively took on projects after his first film soared to fame. "After Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, I signed around 10 films because I thought that's how it works - you just keep doing movies," he said. However, nine of those films flopped, leaving him labeled as a "one-film wonder" by critics and industry insiders. The string of failures hit him hard. "I would go home and cry because I didn't know what I was doing wrong," he confessed, laying bare the emotional toll of that period.

Aamir pinpointed one film from that era that stood out amidst the flops -- Raakh, a 1989 crime drama directed by Aditya Bhattacharya. "The only film that I felt proud of during that time was Raakh," he noted. Despite its critical acclaim, Raakh didn't perform well commercially, adding to his challenges. He explained how these setbacks forced him to rethink his approach. "Those failures taught me to be more selective and to focus on quality over quantity," he said, marking a turning point that shaped his later success.

Now 59, Aamir is gearing up for his next release, Sitaare Zameen Par, a comedy set to hit theaters on Christmas 2025, where he stars alongside Genelia Deshmukh and Darsheel Safary. He's also producing Lahore 1947, featuring Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. Looking back, Aamir credited his early struggles for his growth. "Those tough times made me who I am today," he said, offering a candid glimpse into the journey of a superstar who turned setbacks into stepping stones. Fans are buzzing about his revelations, eager to see how his evolved mindset plays out in his upcoming projects.
