Lottery fever is spiking!

Will a $2 Powerball ticket make you a billionaire? As they say in the lottery business, "it could happen to you." A Florida ticketholder - for the second drawing in a row - didn't win $1 billion, but came away with a $1 million prize.

After no one matched all five numbers plus the Powerball in the Monday, Sept. 1, Labor Day Powerball drawing, the jackpot jumped from $1.10 billion to $1.40 billion for Wednesday, Sept. 3. The one-time lump-sum cash option jumped pretty high, too: From $498.4 million to $634.3 million.

The total is climbing up the Top 10 biggest Powerball lottery jackpots of all-time (see below), and it's on the list of largest lottery prizes in U.S. history.

Did anyone win Powerball last night?

Check back for Wednesday, Sept. 3, winning Powerball numbers. We'll see if there's a billion-dollar lottery winner or yet another chance at a higher windfall.

In case you're wondering, Monday's Labor Day Powerball numbers (Sept. 1, 2025) were 8-23-25-40-53 and the Powerball was 5. Power Play was 3x. Though those numbers meant a rollover, it wasn't all bad news: There were 12 million-dollar-plus winners in Monday's Powerball including a Florida ticket that matched 5. The other $1 million winners bought their tickets in California, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, New Jersey (2 tickets), New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Even more lucky were those whose ticket matched 5 plus the Power Play. Those tickets, which won $2 million prizes, were purchased in Montana and North Carolina.

The same phenomenon occured in the Saturday, Aug. 30, Powerball drawing, too: Though it was a rollover with the Powerball numbers of 3-18-22-27-33 and the Powerball was 17, Power Play at 3x, there were 12 prizes of at least $1 million in that Saturday night Powerball drawing. A ticket from Florida matched 5 for a $1 million prize as did four tickets from California and one each from Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

Because the Power Play was 3x, those lucky winners who bought the three Powerball tickets that matched 5 plus the Power Play got more money. Those were purchased in Colorado, Indiana and New Hampshire.

Tickets start at $2 a piece. Below is what to know about lottery odds, how long to claim the cash option if you bought a ticket in Florida, and what happens to unclaimed prize money, according to the Florida Lottery.

Good luck!
