Saginaw-area weekend highlights: Nouvel breaks through at Beecher

Nouvel held Flint Beecher to 10 second-half points, claiming its first boys basketball win at Beecher in Nouvel history.

The Panthers earned a 47-29 win Saturday in the District of Champions Holiday Classic at Beecher.

Jack Wilson led 4-3 Nouvel with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Rahmaan Kelley Jr. added 12 points.

Cam Kaul pulled down 18 rebounds for Nouvel, which led 22-19 at halftime before outscoring Beecher, 25-10, in the second half.

Saginaw United 79, Romulus 26: Tyler Dorsey scored 29 points with 15 rebounds as United rolled over Romulus, taking a 50-19 halftime lead and allowing just seven points in the second half. Trayvious Buford followed with 17 points, while TJ Stevenson added 10 rebounds, seven steals and six assists. Boop Hardy dished out 11 assists for the 3-2 Phoenix.

Saginaw United 46, Romulus 44: United won its third consecutive game after falling behind 15-6 in the first quarter. The Phoenix used a 14-9 edge in the fourth quarter to edge Romulus. My'Kael Williams led the United scorers with 11 points, followed by Brittany Johnson with a double double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. Maliyah Phillips added eight points and Destiny Clark seven.

Caro Invitational: Midland High won five dual meets, improving to 12-0 and claiming the Caro Invitational title. In pool play, the Chemics beat Oxford B (56-23), Ortonville Brandon (82-0), Caro B (84-0) and Carrollton (72-6). In the final, Midland won 10 of 14 weight classes to beat Caro, 55-18. Undefeated wrestlers for Midland included Noah Anderson, Dylon Anderson, Landon MacLeod, Josh Clever, Rostin Delgado, Logan Bates, Prestyn Simons, Owen Simons, Ben Grenesko and Avery Simons.

Frankenmuth 26, Alma 4: Frankenmuth improved to 3-0 with a TVC win at Crooked Creek. Frankenmuth won the two Baker games, 176-135 and 166-116. In the first Peterson game, the Eagles won, 949-671, led by Miles Paetz with a 238. Frankenmuth won the second Peterson game, 868-814, behind Liam Liddle's 234 score.

Doyle Doubles Championship: Liam Liddle and Miles Paetz led Frankenmuth in Sunday's Jerry Doyle Doubles Championship at Colonial Lanes in Flushing. Paetz bowled games of 203 and 172, while Liddle scored 206 and 174, qualifying nine to make the cut of 16. The doubles team lost to Goodrich, facing a 19-pin deficit after a 216-197 loss in the first game and then losing 225-220 in the second.

Frankenmuth 18, Swan Valley 12: Frankenmuth tied (78-78) and lost (189-180) the two Baker games, but the Eagles made up for it in the Peterson games. In a 497-435 win in the first Peterson, Kenzie Kratz bowled a 143 for Frankenmuth, while Addy Meininger was high with a 131 in Frankenmuth's 499-487 win in the second Peterson game.
