It looks like the Giants could very well get Andrew Thomas, their elite left tackle, back on the field Sunday night.
While Giants coach Brian Daboll said Friday he feels hopeful about Thomas' chances of facing the Chiefs -- in the 0-2 Giants' home opener at MetLife Stadium -- he said Thomas will be game-time decision.
The Giants will release their final injury report later Friday. Expect Thomas to be listed as questionable, after he was listed as doubtful for the Giants' first two games this season -- losses in Washington and Dallas.
The Giants' offensive line obviously will be a lot better whenever Thomas returns, though his return would not automatically solve all the issues plaguing their interior line, which remains a liability.
Thomas hasn't played nearly enough since signing a lucrative second contract before the 2023 season. That year, he was limited to 10 games by a hamstring injury. Last year, he played just six games.
Thomas suffered a serious Lisfranc foot fracture in Week 6, on Oct. 13 against the Bengals, that required season-ending surgery.
He just now is approaching full health with that surgically repaired foot.
The Giants must hope that once he does get on the game field again, he can stay there this time.
Thomas has yet to fully participate in a practice this season. In Week 1, his practice participation looked like this: limited, did not practice, limited. In Week 2: did not practice, limited, limited.
This week, Thomas was limited on both Wednesday and Thursday. He likely will be a limited participant again Friday, since Daboll said Thomas would be a game-time decision for Sunday night's matchup with the Chiefs.
