* We are in the midst of a "supermoon season" with four consecutive supermoons occurring from October through January
* We just left the Harvest Moon behind, but coming up are the Beaver Moon, Cold Moon and Wolf Moons
* An astrologer unpacks what the arcs of these lunar events mean and when exactly they'll take place
We've just witnessed the dazzling glow of the Harvest Supermoon, but according to astrologers and astronomers alike, we're only at the beginning. A string of Supermoons is lighting up the night sky from now until early 2026, with one more to come in November, another in December, and the final in January.
Below, we're looking at everything you need to know about supermoon season, including the meanings of the different moons coming up and the astrological implications.
What Makes A Full Moon A Supermoon?
A Supermoon occurs when a full or new moon aligns with the Moon's closest point to Earth in its orbit -- what's known as the perigee. This makes it appear larger and brighter in the sky than usual.
The Moon's perigee is approximately 356,355 kilometres from Earth. At its farthest point, known as the apogee, the Moon is around 406,725 kilometres away. While the visual difference can be subtle to the naked eye, the energetic impact -- according to astrologers -- can be intense.
Why This Supermoon Series Is Astrologically Significant
Astrologer Kristy Gray explains that this isn't just a beautiful streak of full moons -- it's a powerful cosmic sequence activating some of the zodiac's most emotionally charged themes. "Because these four Supermoons land in Aries, Taurus, Gemini and Cancer, they span four very personal life themes: identity, security, communication and emotional safety."
Each full moon is a moment of polarity, when the Moon sits directly opposite the Sun. This creates tension between two zodiac signs -- or what astrologers call an axis. It's this push and pull, between light and shadow, that brings key life lessons to the surface.
And while the calendar year may be wrapping up, Kristy says astrologically, we're not winding down -- we're waking up.
"This is also the halfway point of the astrological year. While the calendar year winds down, astrologically we're being asked to get clear, not to get closure. This puts us in a prime position to decide what we're taking into 2026 and what we're ready to leave behind."
If 2025 has felt like a pressure cooker, Gray suggests each Supermoon offers an emotional checkpoint -- a mirror, reflecting who you've been and who you're becoming.
The Four Supermoons, Explained
October Supermoon: The Harvest Supermoon (Aries/Libra Axis)
Occurred: October 8, 2025
Theme: Power, relationships, self-assertion
The Harvest Supermoon lit up our skies recently, named for its timing near the September equinox -- when farmers in the Northern Hemisphere would harvest crops by moonlight. In Australia, it coincided with the start of daylight savings.
Astrologically, this moon was all about reclaiming your power in relationships.
"This lunation likely stirred up themes of self-prioritisation, relational imbalances and suppressed assertiveness," says Gray. "For anyone who felt emotionally volatile or suddenly bold, this lunation was your permission slip to be direct about your needs and desires."
November Supermoon: The Beaver Moon (Taurus/Scorpio Axis)
Date: November 5, 2025 at 12:20am AEDT
Theme: Comfort, control, transformation
Traditionally called the Beaver Moon because it marked the time when beavers began winter preparations in the Northern Hemisphere, this lunation has also been dubbed the Frost Moon.
This one's all about the body, money, and what makes you feel safe.
"This is the embodiment moon. Taurus wants comfort, Scorpio craves transformation. Together, they ask: What are you clinging to that no longer feels safe, or satisfying? It's a moment to re-evaluate your relationship with stability, intimacy, money, and your physical body," says Gray.
December Supermoon: The Cold Moon (Gemini/Sagittarius Axis)
Date: December 5, 2025 at 10:00am AEDT
Theme: Inner dialogue, truth-seeking, overwhelm
Despite the name, the Cold Moon won't bring snow to Australian shores -- but it will bring mental stimulation. Traditionally named by the Mohawk people in North America, this moon signals the start of winter.
In 2025, the Cold Moon lands in Gemini, the sign of quick thoughts and restless minds. Sagittarius, its opposite, seeks truth and deeper meaning.
"This is the mind-mirror moon. Gemini brings facts and Sagittarius wants truth. You may feel called to question your inner dialogue or be more intentional with your voice. Watch for mental overwhelm, comparison spirals, or the temptation to 'say something' before you really mean it."
If you're setting intentions, Gray reminds us:
"You're not required to have all the answers, just to ask better questions."
January Supermoon: The Wolf Moon (Cancer/Capricorn Axis)
Date: January 3, 2026
Theme: Emotional needs, ambition, burnout
The final Supermoon in the series is the Wolf Moon, named for the sound of wolves howling through the bitter winters of the Northern Hemisphere. That imagery fits the mood of this moon -- haunting, hungry, and primal.
"This final Supermoon is emotional and exacting. Cancer seeks emotional safety; Capricorn wants long-term success. This moon will highlight where you've been over-functioning, over-giving, or trying to 'achieve' your way into worthiness," says Gray.
"It's a powerful moment to come home to yourself and release the pressure to perform. There's wisdom in withdrawing and strength in knowing when to stop."
What Comes After the Supermoon Series?
While January's Wolf Moon marks the last Supermoon for a while, the Moon won't be done putting on a show. A total lunar eclipse -- or Blood Moon -- will take place in March 2026, and it will be visible across all of Australia. If you're spiritually inclined, that eclipse may feel like the final chapter in a transformation that began with the Harvest Moon
