Another royalties, catalog deal alert. Legendary hitmaker Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins has made another power move in the music business, officially selling the royalty rights to his massive catalog of streaming income.
As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, this marks the second time Jerkins has made a major deal involving his musical legacy.
Way back in 2020, he sold his publishing catalog to Recognition Music Group, which was formerly known as Hipgnosis Songs Fund. Now, through this new deal, the firm HarbourView has secured the rights to his royalties from a staggering list of era-defining records.
Get this, among the iconic tracks included are Brandy and Monica's classic duet "The Boy Is Mine," Whitney Houston's anthem "It's Not Right but It's Okay," Destiny Child's empowering "Say My Name," Lady Gaga's electrifying "Telephone" with Beyoncé, Justin Bieber's fan favorite "As Long As You Love Me," and Sam Smith's soulful "Stay With Me," just to name a few.
Here's what Jerkins said about the deal...
"HarbourView truly understands the value of music and the people who create it," Jerkins said. "Music creators deserve respect and clarity when it comes to selling their life's work, and working with both HarbourView and Chapter Two has made that process feel seamless."
What's more, Sherrese Clarke, the founder and CEO of HarbourView, praised Jerkins in her own statement, highlighting the massive cultural footprint he has left through his decades of work in the studio.
