Samsung has finally unveiled its next-gen Fan Edition smartphone, the Galaxy S25 FE. The device brings some notable upgrades across several key areas, such as the selfie camera, battery, and charging speed. The processor also gets an upgrade, but not the one many expected.

The Galaxy S25 FE arrives as the fifth member of the Galaxy S25 family. As usual, the company has positioned the device as a more affordable option in the lineup. While the phone borrows the same design language as its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 FE, it is now thinner and lighter. The new FE model measures just 7.4 mm in thickness and weighs 190 g, compared to 8 mm and 213 g on the S24 FE.

Speaking of the processor, the Galaxy S25 FE uses an in-house Exynos 2400 4nm chipset, an upgrade from the Exynos 2400e found in the Galaxy S24 FE. It is worth mentioning that last year's flagships, the Galaxy S24 and S24+, also used the same chipset. So the processor inside the S25 FE is flagship-grade, delivering the same level of performance as the company's premium devices.

However, to be honest, it's not a true upgrade over its predecessor -- after all, the Exynos 2400e is a slightly underclocked version of the Exynos 2400. Both share the same architecture: one Cortex-X4 core, two Cortex-A720 cores, three Cortex-A720 cores, and four Cortex-A520 cores. Even the GPU and manufacturing process remain unchanged, with the Xclipse 940 GPU and a 4nm node. The main difference lies in the frequency of the prime core: 3.2 GHz instead of 3.1 GHz.

Samsung has already introduced a newer chip, the Exynos 2500, which powers the Galaxy Z Flip 7. The Korean firm could have used this 3nm processor in the S25 FE instead of a generation-old chipset. This would definitely deliver a more substantial performance leap. However, Exynos 2400 has also proven to offer solid performance and power efficiency, so most users will probably not be disappointed.
