Zarif Abrar has etched his name in the history books by becoming the first Bangladeshi tennis player to win an ITF (International Tennis Federation) U-18 singles title.
The landmark victory came at 30th edition of ITF Junior Tournament, held at Rajshahi Tennis Complex.
Despite Bangladesh hosting this tournament 29 times before, no local player had ever claimed the championship title; until now.
Zarif's triumph not only breaks that drought but also marks Bangladesh's first international ITF tennis title win.
In Friday morning's boys' singles final on Court 2, Zarif faced off against Thailand's top seed, Napat Patanalert Thapan.
The match was fiercely competitive from the start, with the first set going into a tiebreaker.
Zarif held his nerve and clinched it 7-6 (7-3). He then sealed the match and his historic win with a 6-4 victory in the second set, despite squandering five match points along the way.
The girls' final was equally intense. China's Ziji Yan won the first set 7-5, but Maldives' Ara Asal Azim fought back to take the second 6-3.
However, Yan regained control in the final set, winning 6-3 to secure the championship.
Following the finals, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Khondaker Azim Ahmed awarded the trophies to the winners.
Also present as special guests were Bangladesh Tennis Federation Vice President Arshafuzzaman Khan, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian, Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhtar and Superintendent of Police Farzana Islam.
